Winners & 10 Easy Ways to Catch a Meteor

Welcome to Week 6 of the 2024 Perseid-Brinski Event!

***************

It’s Week 6 – the moment we’ve all been waiting for. It’s time to announce our winners!

But first… we are one week away from peak viewing of the 2024 Perseid Meteor Shower, and I’ve composed a list for you of 10 Easy Ways to Catch a Meteor.

  1. Get out of town. Seriously. Get out. Get away from the noise and busyness and – most importantly – the lights. They are naught but distractions. Find a dark space. It is sacred. (Gentle reminder: If you’re in the area, reach out and we’ll have you come out and watch with us. We have dark space in bucketloads. We’ll have an evening fire. Kid and pet friendly. One indoor toilet. Lots of trees.)
  2. Wear bug dope. The last thing you want is to miss the sky for the skeeters.
  3. Lay your head on the grass and wait. Just… wait. Trust me, the show is worth it.
  4. Ignore your cell phone. Leave it in your pocket or better yet leave it in the house. It’s just a distraction and the light will render you unable to see the shower.
  5. Give your eyes time to adjust.
  6. Forget the meteor shower for a moment and behold the sky. The stars. The planets. The galaxy. Take it in.
  7. If you can find the constellation Perseus, that’ll help. But honestly, you don’t have to know where to look. You just have to open your eyes.
  8. Don’t compare meteors. They’re all unique.
  9. Lift your hands to the heavens, palms open. Be ready to receive.
  10. Now repeat after me: When I look at your heavens… what is man that you are mindful of him? (Psa. 8:3-4, ESV) Allow yourself this once to be overwhelmed by the magnitude of it: God is mindful of you.

I want to thank everyone who participated by signing up for my newsletter or sharing my posts. I appreciate your involvement and I wish I had copies of the book to send to each of you! You all deserve it! But alas, my friends, I only had two copies to give away this summer (and let’s don’t be ridiculous – my copy of JJ’s book is not up for grabs).

So without further adieux, announcing our 2024 Perseid-Brinski Event WINNERS, who will each receive a free autographed copy of JJ Brinski’s book, While the Morning Stars Sang Together…

(DRUMROLL, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!)

Heidi and Lorianne!

Yay! Congratulations, friends!

THANK YOU to everyone who has already sent in a night sky memory! They are so good and I can’t wait to share them here! There’s still time to send something in. 🙂

Would you like to share a photo, painting, poem, or memory that I can feature during the Perseid-Brinski Event?

COUNTDOWN: 07 days until peak!

Do you have a viewing plan for the meteor shower? If you’re in my locale, reach out – Little Lady, Little Joey, Hubby and I (okay, and our dog) would love to have you sit out and view with us!

Don’t forget to SIGN UP for my newsletter!

If you were not one of our lucky winners, please consider purchasing JJ Brinski’s new book, While the Morning Stars Sang Together! I promise there is no better book of modern cosmic poetry.

Be a fireball in the dark, friends!

From my heart to yours,

  1. Great post, Sarah! Thanks for the super tips on how to truly appreciate the event! Meteor watching with my children make up some of my favorite memories, and they have gained an appreciation for them, too. Thanks for the encouragement to keep watching! Enjoy the show. Wish I were close enough to join you, but I’ll be there in spirit with y’all!
